The Hydrogen Business Council, with support from the Climate Solutions Advancement Network (ClimateSAN), is hosting their Hydrogen, Sustainability and Finance Conference on Nov. 19 & 20.
The market for hydrogen-related technologies is rapidly growing and is causing significantly increased interest in this sector. For example, CNBC reported that hydrogen is at a ‘tipping point’ – with an $11 trillion market set to explode according to The Bank of America. This forecast is due in part to so many large companies committing to Net-Zero emissions, which is creating considerably increased demand for hydrogen related technologies and services. For example, the number of Net-Zero pledges has doubled in less than a year, including more than 1,500 companies with a combined revenue of more than $11.4 trillion.
During the full online conference, leading experts in energy, transportation, finance, economic development, environment, and policy will share their insights. In addition, hydrogen-related technology companies will introduce their business opportunities in a special session entitled “New Business Opportunities in Hydrogen”.
This event approaches as the Canadian federal government is expected to release a long-term national hydrogen strategy this fall for making Canada a leader in the industry centered around what many are anticipating as “the fuel of the future”. This national hydrogen strategy is a key way the Canadian Government can supercharge Canada’s hydrogen fuel sector and enable hydrogen to become an important part of their announced $10B Funding for Cleantech.
Not only do hydrogen technologies promise such accelerating economic gains, but they also enable major progress against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions – even down to net-zero. If you aren’t already following the developments in hydrogen as part of a sustainable path forward for the economy, then 2020 is the time to get started.
In the spirit of the theme “Local Roles for Global Goals”, the 1.5-day online conference will explore the entire suite of clean hydrogen technologies and their applications as part of a broader effort to address global climate change. The most effective way to do this is to create an emergent and self-sustaining Canadian community of end-users, product suppliers, project developers, system integrators, and supporting infrastructure. As a result, Ontario and Canada can significantly reduce emissions while also making economical use of the off-peak surplus power derived from low or zero-emission sources to make valuable, green hydrogen.
Some of the speakers, who will be part of the full conference program, are:
- Jeff Yurek, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, MPP, Legislative Assembly of Ontario
- Aaron Hoskin, Senior Manager, Intergovernmental Initiatives at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and
- Robyn Collver, Senior Vice-President, Risk & Regulatory Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer, Canadian Tire Corporation
Naturally, the conference will be presented entirely online in order to avoid large in-person gatherings. Because of this, the event will be even more accessible not only to a local audience but also to members of the wider national and international communities, who could be interested to learn about hydrogen technologies in the contexts of Ontario and Canada.
