Short Biographies of Panelists:

Peter McArthur, RBC – Peter McArthur is VP of Technology & Innovation Banking and National Cleantech Lead for RBC. In addition, he is the Chair of the Ontario Clean Technology Industry Association and is on the Board of the Canada Cleantech Alliance. As the clean tech commercial banking expert at Canada’s largest bank, Peter manages the banking for 30 different clean tech companies across Canada, and has advocated tirelessly both within and outside the bank for the sector. He helped the bank extend new loans totaling $43 million to 11 clean tech companies over the past few years – sometimes these companies would not usually qualify for funding. Peter readily connects cleantech companies to appropriate partners in the clean-tech ecosystem and provides mentorship for numerous clean tech start-ups.

Brian Petersen, Fort Capital Partners – Brian Petersen is a Managing Partner at Fort Capital Partners in Calgary, Alberta. He is a senior investment and merchant banker. Brian, is also a consultant with experience in Canada, US and internationally in providing financial advisory services, capital market products and mergers and acquisitions advice for public and private companies. His experience includes senior executive roles in capital markets and finance as well as a member of various public company boards with roles on Audit, Governance and Special Committees.

Rupert Merer, National Bank – Rupert Merer, is the Managing Director in Equity Research at National Bank in Toronto. His primary role is to provide research into the energy technology and renewable infrastructure space for the bank, advising internal and external clients. He started his career as a combustion engineer more than 25 years ago, initially focused on research into alternative fuels, including hydrogen. After working on reciprocating engines and gas turbine combustion systems for a few years, he eventually landed in the hydrogen industry and spent five years working at Stuart Energy/Hydrogenics, focused on developing applications for hydrogen in energy storage. He has now been at National Bank for 15 years. For much of that time, his team has received the #1 ranking for Alternative Energy research by Brendan Wood International’s survey of institutional investors.
