Climate Solutions That Can Be Implemented on a Global Scale

A. Introduction:
There are a wide range of solutions that mitigate or adapt to climate change (Climate Solutions) that can be implemented on a global scale.  This summary will only focus on Climate Solutions that mitigate climate change.
Fortunately, over the last several decades, there has been considerable progress in developing technologies and research into ways to implement nature based solutions on a large scale. To help explain the range of technologies and nature based solutions, we have grouped the solutions into these three main categories:
a) Decarbonization of Industry
b) Energy Storage
c) Carbon Sequestration
and provided the following brief summaries of these categories:
1) Decarbonization of Industry: Decarbonization of industry includes many changes in processes and power sources.  One very promising area is Green Hydrogen, which is hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources.  Green Hydrogen powered technologies can dramatically reduce carbon emissions in transportation, manufacturing, and shipping industries since hydrogen does not create any carbon emissions when utilized.  For example, now you can purchase long haul transport and local delivery trucks that are powered on hydrogen. As well, there is now a steel production plant powered by hydrogen
2) Energy Storage:  Energy storage technology has been rapidly developing, with the cost of battery storage plummeting in recent years. Based on data published by BloombergNEF, the cost of battery storage technology has dropped by 76% since 2012 making the combination of renewables and energy storage considerably more financially viable.  This storage can enable more renewable power generation, higher grid efficiency with less wasted energy, and eliminate the need for peaker and base-load power-plants.  This Energy Storage can come in many forms including pumped hydro, compressed gas, lithium-ion, redox flow batteries, mechanical storage, and thermal storage.
2) Carbon Sequestration: Carbon Sequestration through the use of technologies and practices to accelerate natural solutions such as rapid tree-planting with the use of aerial drones, regenerative agricultural practices, and wetland restoration.  A 2020 report by the Rodale Institute shows that regenerative farming and grazing systems, if achieved globally, would drawdown more than 100% of current annual CO2 emissions.

Given below are two main carbon dioxide capture categories:

a) Artificial direct air capture, which removes carbon dioxide directly out of the ambient air.
b) Carbon capture storage, which removes carbon dioxide out of gases emitted from industrial processes.

There are several major initiatives by different organizations that outline what can and should be implemented to create a sustainable future for us all. For example, Project Drawdown created a master Table of Solutions that outlines a wide range of Climate Solutions, which includes a calculated emission reduction impact of these solutions if they were implemented in a way that they estimated to be plausible and economically realistic.  Related information is provided in the reference section below.
